Massage Therapy For People With Cancer

Certified oncology massage therapists delivering adapted therapeutic touch for people in active treatment, recovery, and survivorship — at home, in hospital, or care facility.

Evidence-Based Support For People Living With Cancer.

Oncology massage is not standard massage with minor adjustments. It is a fundamentally different clinical approach that requires specialist training. Our therapists understand the physiological effects of cancer and its treatments — chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and surgery — and adapt every technique accordingly. Tumour sites, infusion ports, radiation fields, and lymph-at-risk areas are all factored into every session.

"For many people living with cancer, oncology massage is one of the most meaningful and effective supportive care interventions available."

Sessions are delivered at your home, in the hospital, or in a care facility. Family members can coordinate and book on behalf of a loved one. The evidence base is clear: oncology massage significantly reduces pain, nausea, anxiety, and fatigue in people with cancer.

Nausea, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, and anxiety from chemotherapy are directly addressed by oncology-adapted massage — timed around infusion schedules, away from all treatment sites.

Palliative and end-of-life care

Therapeutic touch in palliative settings reduces pain perception, anxiety, and isolation — providing comfort and human connection that medical treatment alone cannot offer.

Which Cancer Patients And Situations Benefit?

Oncology massage serves people with cancer across every stage of treatment and recovery.

Active Chemotherapy Patients

Nausea, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, and anxiety from treatment. Oncology-trained therapists adapt every technique to chemotherapy- related constraints — timing sessions around your infusion schedule.

Radiation Treatment Patients

Radiation creates specific skin and tissue changes. Sessions avoid the radiation field entirely while addressing anxiety and tension in surrounding, unaffected areas.

Cancer Survivors

Many survivors live with treatment-related chronic fatigue, neuropathy, and anxiety long after treatment ends. Ongoing massage supports survivorship wellness in a meaningful, practical way.

Oncology-Trained. Care-Coordinated. Fully Accountable.

Oncology massage requires a higher level of clinical preparation than any other massage modality — and that is what our therapists provide.

Oncology-trained therapists only

Cancer patients are always assigned therapists with specific oncology massage training and credentials. This is non-negotiable — no general RMT is placed with an oncology patient.

Care team coordination every session

We contact the care team before every hospital or facility session — not just the first. Patient status is confirmed on the day. Sessions are adjusted or postponed if condition has changed.

All contraindications mapped before treatment

Tumour sites, radiation fields, infusion ports, surgical sites, and lymph-at-risk areas are all mapped during intake and confirmed at every subsequent session — not assumed from previous notes.

Family kept informed after every session

After every session, the booking family member receives a brief summary and aftercare notes. For regular patients, we develop an ongoing plan in consultation with the family and care team.

· Fresh linens per client    · Sanitized equipment between sessions
· Regulated provincial standards followed

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is massage safe during active chemotherapy?

Yes — oncology massage with appropriate modifications is safe and evidence-based for patients in active chemotherapy. Sessions avoid infusion sites, address treatment-related symptoms, and are timed around the treatment schedule with care team coordination.

Can massage help with chemotherapy-related nausea?

Yes — oncology massage reliably reduces treatment-related nausea in multiple clinical studies. Parasympathetic activation, cortisol reduction, and acupressure-adjacent point work produce meaningful nausea relief in many patients during and after chemotherapy periods.

What areas does the therapist avoid?

Active tumour sites, radiation treatment fields, surgical incision sites, IV port areas, and lymph-at-risk zones post-surgery are all avoided — mapped during intake and confirmed at every session.

Is lymphatic drainage safe after cancer surgery?

Yes — Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is clinically indicated for cancer-related lymphedema after surgery. It must be performed by an oncology MLD-trained therapist — which all our oncology therapists are.

Can I book for a family member who has cancer?

Yes — family members and caregivers regularly book and coordinate on behalf of loved ones with cancer. We communicate directly with the patient and their care team. You do not need to be present at the session unless you choose to be.

Is oncology massage covered by insurance in Canada?

When performed by an RMT, oncology massage is covered by most Canadian extended health benefits plans. Some provincial cancer programmes and charitable organizations also provide coverage or subsidized access.
