Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes — and this is actually common. You book a Swedish session and during the intake, tell your therapist you want more pressure on specific areas. A skilled RMT will adjust technique accordingly. The reverse is also possible — a deep tissue session can be lightened if you find the pressure too intense. Your session is adaptable throughout.
Deep tissue involves what most clients describe as "productive pressure" — noticeable, sometimes intense, but not sharp or unbearable. You are always in control. Telling your therapist to ease the pressure will result in an immediate adjustment. Post-session, mild muscle soreness lasting 24–48 hours is normal — similar to the soreness after a good workout.
For Swedish massage aimed at stress and wellness maintenance, once every 2–4 weeks is typical. For deep tissue addressing chronic pain or structural tension, weekly sessions initially — tapering to bi-weekly as the condition improves — produce the best cumulative results. Your RMT will recommend a personalized schedule after the first session based on your presentation.
